On Wednesday the Greater Chennai Corporation issued demolition notices to the property owners and declared that 141 buildings are unhealthy for occupation in Royapuram (Zone 5).
According to officials, only eight owners had destroyed their buildings after the notices. “In the remaining buildings, a legal dispute between tenants and building owners are delaying demolition proceedings. So, we have placed warning boards declaring that the buildings are unsafe and also marked the impact zone if they collapse,” a corporation official said.
The topic came up for discussion during a northeast monsoon review meeting conducted by Atulya Mishra, principal secretary, industries department.
According to officials, on Thursday Mishra will present a compilation of the feedback received from zonal officers during the meeting to the chief secretary. “He (Atulya) sought to know long-term solutions to the problems that we encountered during this monsoon,” said an official.
