Ajoy Mehta appointed as new BMC Commissioner

Ajoy-MehtaBrihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte is been replaced by IAS officer Ajoy Mehta, the appointment was done by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Kunte is transferred as Principal Secretary of Environment Department, as his term was ending on 30th April.

Ajoy Mehta an IAS officer of Batch 1984, was earlier handling the opposition of Principal Secretary of Environment Department. He has also served as joint municipal commissioner in the BMC during and Municipal Commissioner of Nashik and Collector of Ahmednagar District.

Sources says that the immediate decision may be taken due to the recent issues occurred over the Draft Development Plan 2034 prepared by BMC and also regards to upcoming BMC elections in 2017.

The DP 2034 had faced huge opposition from citizens, NGOs, social activists and government parties. After the reviewing committee set by CM observed major flaws in the draft, government decided to scrape the plan. CM has ordered BMC to again prepare Development Plan.

The new DP 2034 will be prepared under the guidance of new BMC Chief Ajoy Mehta.
