Around Rs. 258 crore collected by South Delhi civic body under property tax amnesty

South Delhi Civic body collected almost Rs. 258 crore under the property tax amnesty. The scheme launched in last week o November, 2016.  The amnesty law allows defaulters to pay dues without penalty or interest on the amount. Almost Rs. 170 crore was collected over past 3 months, among which Rs. 88 crore came in from the other sources like BSES, AAI, education department of Delhi government.

The initial deadline to pay the due under this law was February 28th, 2017, but it is now extended to March 31st, 2017. 42,000 taxpayers utilised this opportunity and cleared the dues in last 3 months, whereas, in 2015-16 only 16,485 taxpayers paid. In that specific year only Rs 56 crore were collected, whereas in last 3 months almost thrice the amount has been collected under this law.

SDMC  has initiated an Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC) card from where the tax-payers can access to their digital records and upload any required documents.
