BMC can put building plans online for checks

Seeing the illegalities in the real estate market, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation is considering launching a service whereby citizens can access plans of approved buildings in the city.

The proposed facility has been put before the municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte for consideration. The officials believe it will implement soon enough. Once the plan is introduced citizens will be able to view on the BMC site new building permissions granted by the corporation.

Mohan Adtani said, the buildings lay “The building layouts, plans, permissions, all of these will be available on the site. If people are unable to judge online, they can seek advice from the building proposal department. We will start providing at a nominal cost a certificate declaring the legal status of properties. This will enable buyers to know that their investments are safe,” further he said, “Two things have come to the fore in the light of the Supreme Court order. No developer should presume that he can get away easily with building illegal constructions. Also, citizens need to be more vigilant before buying properties. They need to be aware if the building plan is approved or not before making the purchase.
