BMC razes illegal construction inside National Sports Club of India

A senior civic official said that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has razed an illegal structure inside the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) at Worli.

An unauthorised construction, around 400 feet by 25 feet, constructed in open space outside the hall of the club was demolished on Saturday, he said.

The official said, “After we received a complaint, our team noticed certain irregularities and found that the complaint was true.”

Advocate Vivekanand Gupta, who had written a letter to the civic chief two years ago regarding the irregularities in the club.

“I raised this issue two years ago but the action came so late. Its better late than never. Municipal officials did not act against the club because they were given honorary memberships,” Gupta, who is also general secretary of Mumbai BJP, said.

Advocate alleged that the NSCI has violated provision of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act and also Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norm and insisted that its office bearers be booked.

This National Sports Club of India (NSCI) is the second club set up in Mumbai’s at Worli area in 1950 and whereas the first club was set up under the support of Sardar Patel, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru among others in Delhi.
