The Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (MCHI) wants the state government to disband the high rise committee. The organization has said, they also want two panels comprising fire experts and structural engineers should be formed to certify construction projects. CREDAI one of the main regulating said, the committee is burdened with number of projects and therefore approvals take time. Under the current building approval process, a high rise panel certifies the soil quality at the building site, fire safety norms and structural stability of a building before the civic body gives the final go ahead. The Chief Minister has assured developers that he would contact the environment and forest ministry to discuss the difficulties they face in implementing guidelines on building height restrictions.
BMC representatives said, they were working on a plan to grant building approvals within 60 days.
