Madras High Court was informed by the environment ministry on August 2, 2018, regarding the land acquisition process for the Chennai-Salem Greenfield Corridor.
The ministry told the court that the project was being done as per law and can not be started without its approval.
G Rajagopalan, Additional Solicitor General said, at present, the authorities are only doing survey work, which is essential for obtaining environmental clearance.
A submission report was made before the division bench of justices TS Sivagnanam and Bhavani Subrayan by additional solicitor general. The submission was made on the bunch of pleas requesting the court to stall the land acquisition process for the project. Further hearings will be taken up by the court on a fast track basis.
