The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) is scouting for a “friendly” bank that will extend help to applicants for the ambitious Swapnapurti housing project, for the economically weaker section (EWS) and low income group (LIG) at Kharghar.
“There are many banks but their security guards appear intimidating to such loan applicants. We are looking for a bank that can adopt a friendly demeanor, along with a helpful and patient staff who will explain the details and encourage them to buy the forms and avail other facilities. We are hopeful of getting one soon,” a source said.
Earlier, Cidco chairman and NCP member Pramod Hindurao had announced the project launch on Thursday. The deadline for the sale of forms has also been extended to August 1. However, the actual process of inquiry will start now. “We released advertisements mentioning the documents required for processing loan,” said Hindurao. Asked about the reason for delay in finalizing a bank, he said, “We will get one in a few days”.
Cidco’s concern to tie up with ‘a good bank’ has led to doubts about the planning behind the scheme, said insiders. Director Namdeo Bhagat said, “Cidco could have done better if it had disbursed the loans at a cheaper rate.”
