With aid of special drive on Monday Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) sealed 27 commercial properties, including two shops of royal scion Manoharsinh Jadeja, in the city. These 27 commercial properties were having outstanding tax dues.
During sealing the shops, a few shopkeepers made payment by cheque on the spot. However, Tax department officials recovered about Rs 7.7 lakh on the spot.
According to RMC, over Rs 61 crore property tax was outstanding from these shops.
As part of the special drive, RMC officials also sealed two shops of royal scion Manoharsinh Jadeja in Guruvarad Complex near Lalpari Randarda Lake. According to the officials, property tax totalling to Rs 3.75 lakh was due for the two shops.
“This drive will continue for the next few days. In the first phase, we are sealing commercial properties while in the second phase, we will take action against residential properties and if necessary cut their water connections,” said Rajkot municipal commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani.
In current fiscal, the civic body has so far collected about Rs 161 crore as property tax.
