New layer of asphalt on roads across the state shall begin by November 15, Public works department minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar said. The residents of this state have been complaining and want pothole ridden roads immediately.
The minister said that they shall now delegate the work to the contractors and resolve the issue. Nearly 50 percent of the roads have not completed the maintenance period and there are potholes in them. The only action against the left is to seize the security and performance guarantee of the contractor, according to an agency.
In order to resolve this problem for once and for all without having any further complaints, the asphalt roads shall be converted into concrete roads. The minister said that there is a maintenance period clause of three years for contractors and within this time period, PWD cannot carry out the maintenance works.
He also said that PWD is also helpless as road works have been carried out by other agencies, like the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, which are also responsible for maintenance.
