Mumbai, June 12, 2012 – Chief Minister Mr.Prithviraj Chavan, today, visited four major projects being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). “It was a pretty satisfying visit. The progress on the Eastern Freeway and Anik-Panjarpol Link Road is showing up for sure. The twin tunnels on APLR are unique and also first in the city. Both these projects should be ready for Mumbaikars this yearend and will provide a lot of relief to the eastern traffic”, said Mr.Chavan, after the visit. “I am also sure; the first phase of Mono Rail will be set to roll by the year end what with the tests already happening regularly. I too enjoyed entering the Mono at Bhakti Park station! It was a cool and comfortable experience albeit the fact that Mono was stationary”, said Mr.Chavan further.
The Chief Minister acceded that the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro Rail corridor has been delayed due to a few permissions from MoEF, Railways etc., “But, at the same time I must say that big infrastructure projects do face, some times, awkward situations. Resettlement and Rehabilitation of the project affected families is another huge challenge and I must compliment MMRDA for doing some exemplary work on that front. Of course, we are working very hard to complete all civil work by this year end, conduct the required tests and begin commercial operations by March next year”, said Mr.Chavan.
The visit was organized in a mini-bus at the behest of the Chief Minister. “The idea was simple. I was travelling with Chief Secretary, MMRDA Commissioner, BMC Chief, Police Commissioner and others. Travelling together meant on the spot discussions and solutions to the problems”, said the Chief Minister. “Our priority, after all, is to completing the projects and providing commuter friendly infrastructure to the city folks as early as possible”, concluded the Chief Minister.
