MMRDA is constructing a new elevated road from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Eastern Express Highway near Sion. The Metropolitan commissioner UPS Madan said, he development authority is right now busy in finalizing a very detailed project report and will fill tenders in September for the proposed 2.5km road. Adding further he said, we are planning a pedestrian path along the elevated road. We are also considering viewing decks where the road will cross Mithi River near BKC. The time taken for this project is about 30 months through engineering procurement contract and the fund issued is 300crore rupees.
The elevated road will start at G block and end at Eastern Express Highway near Somaiya Ground in Sion-Chunabhatti after passing over Mahin Nature Park, LBS Marg and crossing the suburban railway half-a-km north of Sion station. The road will be a huge relief for traffic coming to BKC from eastern suburbs, Navi Mumbai and Thane. It will cut the peak-hour travel time between Sion and BKC through the narrow and congested Sion-Dharavi Link Road from about 30 minutes to less than five.
With the development increasing in BKC as it’s is one of the busiest commercial place, MMRDA revived it earlier this year. It is also planning a vehicular underpass between the business district and another to Bandra Worli Sea Link.
