For unfair trade practice Unitech to pay Rs.6L

New Delhi: India’s flamboyant realty firm held guilty for practicing unfair trade. The consumer forum has directed to realty firm to pay sum of Rs.6.6L for making “illegal demands” from him after he booked a flat with it and paid the booking amount.
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum found guilty to builder as well as agent to making illegal demands from home-buyer and also restricted that if demands not fulfilled then deposited money would be forfeited.
Frequently unfair trade practices by Unitech Ltd. as well as agents raising the illegal demands from the customers is clearly untrue and amounts to unfair trade practice by them.
The consumer redressal further said that, “accordingly we direct the firm and its agents jointly and severally to refund to the complainant the sum of Rs 5.5 lakhs along with a compensation of Rs 1,00,000 for physical and mental agony suffered and Rs 10,000 as the litigation cost.”
Chawla who has booked flat in a residential project of Unitech Ltd. for Rs.5.5L in Greater Noida. He said company randomly sent him letters regarding the constant price hikes after paying the booking amount.
