GDA freed land worth Rs 54 Cr from mafia in Ghaziabad

On Saturday the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) freed 1.6 hectares of land worth Rs 54 crore from the land mafia by carrying out a massive anti-encroachment drive in Govindpuram.

The drive was a part of an ongoing effort on the part of GDA to free its 54 hectares of land worth Rs 900 crore that has been seized by land mafia.

Dayanand Prasad, an officer on special duty, GDA said, “Our enforcement team with assistance from the district administration and police carried out an anti-encroachment drive in Harsaon village near I-block in Govindpuram and freed 1.6 hectares of GDA’s land worth Rs 54 crore.”

On Friday in Makanpur in Indirapuram, GDA had carried out a similar drive and freed 7,210 sqm land worth Rs 48 crore from encroachers.

Also, on December 13, the development authority managed to free 30,210 sqm of land in Dasna worth Rs 3.5 crore.

“Out of the 54 hectares of land, 13.6 hectares, valued at Rs 280 crore and including 9.1 hectare of the green belt have been freed from encroachers. The matter of another 22 hectares is under litigation. These remaining plots of land are located in Dasna, Harsaon, Pasonda, Sadarpur and Makanpur,” said S S Verma, executive engineer, GDA.

The GDA had recently lodged six FIRs against land mafia. The total area of the encroached land is about 3 hectares with a market value of Rs 126 crore.
