Govt likely to miss self-imposed GST deadline

The goods and services (GST) act most probably won’t come into effect from the self-imposed deadline of April 1, 2016 as central and state finance officials are yet to reach a consensus on varying topics.

It is being said that the implementation of GST may be delayed by 3 months.

The push comes in the wake of demonetisation, rendering officials confused by the wayward economy of the country at present.

The officials are to meet again at December 22, 2016 to resume further discussions,  Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said after talks in New Delhi on 11th December, 2016.
