Development of Trans-harbour link, Mumbai’s one of the most contentious public road bridge is set to take off as HC comes in with a breather  by green-lighting the cutting of surrounding mangroves.

The freeway grade road bridge which is set to connect the city with Navi Mumbai has been an issue of much debate over years. The activists claim that the area to be utilised will damage the mudflat and mangrove tract towards Sewri and Nhava which in turn will disrupt the habitat of migratory birds like flamingos.

However, with the Bombay HC’s assertion that the construction is a public utility project and its directive for MMRDA to comply with all the conditions imposed Union environment ministry and the CRZ authority, the government is set to undertake the construction from January 2017.
