Kumbh Mela: UP Govt to construct 5,000 tents for pilgrims, ticket size from 10k – 30k per day

With the aim of providing luxurious living and once in a lifetime experience to pilgrims visiting Maha Kumbh in 2019, the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) have introduced “Indraprastham- the City of Eternity, the first time in the history of Kumbh Mela. It is said that the state government has decided to construct total 5,000 tents for pilgrims.

The tourists will get to choose across a range of spacious and luxurious tents and villas categorized as Atri (Deluxe), Angirasa (Super Deluxe), and Gautama (Suite), the rental costs of these tents starts from Rs 10,000 – Rs 30,000 per day, according to the data given on the website.

Every year there is massive footfall at Kumbh Mela, this year the event begins from January 15 to March 4, 2019.  UPSRDC and Hitkari Productions & Creations in association with Davik Consummate Services, have introduced “Indraprastham- City of Eternity.

Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Hon’ble Tourism Minister, Uttar Pradesh said, launched the official website for booking the tents and said, “This time Kumbh Mela is special, Helicopter views/laser shows/ luxury accommodation and much more for the pilgrims visiting Kumbh 2019.  In 2019 as well as in the consecutive years to come, we are hoping to provide a better and advanced experience for the visitors, and will put in best efforts to ensure convenience and safety for everyone.”

The official said, “There are total 5,000 being constructed and the amount UP government is expecting as a revenue from this Kumbh Mela is not sure but it is expecting a massive footfall of 15 crore pilgrims, including monks and the general public (Indians, NRIs and foreign nationals). On the days of prime significance, the footfall may go up to 2 crores per day.”

The official did not wish to disclose the overall construction cost of the tents.

Awanish Kumar Awasthi, IAS Addl, Chief Secretary & DG, Tourism, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh Unveiled the prototype of the tent and said, “With the roll-out of Indraprastam- City of Eternity, expectations are skyrocketing as Kumbh evolves into a truly global event. We are hopeful that this auspicious extravaganza will have a positive impact on the overall tourism scenario of our state. The state government expects a massive footfall of 15 crore pilgrims this time in Kumbh 2019.”

The three types of tents available at Indraprastham- City of Eternity are as follows:

1) Atri (Deluxe)- Tent size 336 sq.ft; Queen sized bed +Sitting Area

2) Angirasa (Luxury)- Tent size 480 sq.ft; Bedroom (King Size bed) & Drawing Room (with TV)

3) Gautama (Suite)- Tent size 900 sq.ft; 2 Bedrooms (Queen size bed), Drawing (with TV) & Dining area

The representatives of Hitkari Productions & Davik Consummate Services said, the construction of the tent city shall begin, October 2018 onwards, and the bookings for the same have already kicked off. Indraprastham- the City of Eternity will offer facilities like separate help desk for foreign nationals; restaurants providing daily buffet meals; fully Wi-Fi enabled campsites; CCTV surveillance; round-the-clock housekeeping and medical services. The core idea is to indulge the visitors in an experience that would be cherished for a lifetime.

While Kumbh Mela noticed an estimated footfall of 12 crore people last time, in 2019, the state government expects a massive footfall of 15 crore pilgrims, including monks and the general public (Indians, NRIs and foreign nationals). On the days of prime significance, the footfall may go up to 2 crores per day.
