Lanco Tanjore Power Company awarded for Prevention of Pollution


Receives Rajiv Gandhi Environment Award for Clean Technology for the year 2009-2010
The award presented by Ms. Jayanthi Natarajan the Hon’ble Minister of Environment & Forests, Govt.of India.

New Delhi: Lanco Infratech Limited (LITL), one of the fastest growing integrated infrastructure enterprises and the largest IPP in India said that its unit – Lanco Tanjore Power Company Limited (Formerly known as Aban Power Company Limited) has won the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Environment Award for Clean Technology for the year 2009-2010 in recognition to its contribution to cleaner production as well as its commitment towards environmental pollution control and resource conservation, by the Ministry.
The National Award for Prevention of Pollution for the year 2009-2010 from the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India under the Thermal Power Category was awarded to Lanco Tanjore Power Company Limited (Formerly known as Aban Power Company Limited) on 16th September, 2011, the International Day for the Preservation of Ozone Layer in recognition of its commendable effort for adopting Clean Technology in the abatement of Environmental Pollution.
The award was collected by Mr. P. Panduranga Rao, Whole-time Director on behalf of Lanco Tanjore Power Company Limited. The award was presented by Ms. Jayanthi Natarajan, the Hon’ble Minister of Environment & Forests, Govt.of India.
Commenting on winning the prestigious award, Mr. G. Venkatesh Babu, Managing Director, Lanco Infratech Limited, said,
“The Lanco Tanjore Power Company Limited, has adopted Advanced Gas Turbine using Natural Gas as fuel and has provided Dry Low NOx Burners. As a result of this effort, the Unit has achieved substantial reduction in NOx emission level, water consumption and effluent generation. The Unit has achieved Environment excellence, while complying with all statutory norms stipulated by Ministry of Environment & Forests. The Unit is also met the standards prescribed by European Union”.
Lanco Tanjore Power Project is the first gas based project to be registered with UNFCCC for CDM and is regularly getting Carbon Credits for reduction in Carbon Dioxide emission.
