Maha to take action against illegal sand mining, Maritime Board to submit report

MUMBAI:

Minister of State for Home Affairs and Guardian Minister of Sindhudurg, Deepak Kesarkar, warned sand mafias if more than the standard of sand extracted during the ban, the government will take action against it.

During the meeting on Tuesday, Minister asked Maritime Board to submit a detailed survey report within eight days. Last year it was found irregularities in sand mining.

“The government will soon take a decision on whether to keep rates for extraction of sand by machines, drowning and handbill. Presently, there will be a decision on whether some extra arrangements will be made during the closing of the stretch”, he said.

The Maharashtra Maritime Board has been instructed to prepare environmental assessment report and the necessary funds will also be allocated to them, he added.
