Following state cabinet approval of the land swap deal between Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) and Indian Air Force (IAF) last month, a government resolution (GR) specifying the modalities was issued on Wednesday. This completes the formalities for exchange of land that will pave way for expanding the Mihan project.

MADC will have to hand over 400 hectares land to IAF within a month and also build the necessary infrastructure free of cost. In turn, MADC will get 278 hectares from IAF.

The GR specifies MADC will have to give its share of land to IAF within a month. Of the 400 hectares to be given to IAF, MADC has so far acquired 376 that will be handed over. The remaining land, classified as minor forest, will have to be acquired at the earliest and handed over to IAF, says the GR.

The order also says MADC will have to set infrastructure like water supply, electricity connection, sewer lines apart from other facilities free of cost the vice-chairman-cum-managing director of MADC Vishwas Patil said whatever IAF needs will have to be provided.

A senior official in MADC said as far as power is concerned, IAF will have to take connection from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL). The water supply and sewer lines have been built till the new IAF land. IAF can extend it further into its property, said the source. He said the original agreement provided extra land to IAF in lieu of cost of setting up infrastructure.

The GR also specifies details for exchange of over two hectares of land with CRPF. The homes on encroached land near proposed second runway will have to be acquired by paying the residents compensation.
