Maharashtra may come up with tech solution to quash illegal construction

The Bombay High Court recently asked the Maharashtra government to set up the committee and come up with technological solutions to tackle the illegal constructions in MMR.

Justice Naresh Patil and Justice Girish Kulkarni said, The court observed that the constructor of illegal buildings has no more fear of law and continues to construct buildings illegally. According to court, there are two types of people, one who abides the law and other do illegal things and survives by going into long legal battle. It directed the state to take measures for quashing the illegal construction.

It added MMRDA, BMC, SRA are fighting to overcome the illegal encroachments and illegal construction.

It directed the principal secretary, urban development department to form a committee and come up high technology like satellite mapping, geo-imaging, remote sensing technology, etc and asked to bring method to alert civic officers about the irregularity.

The court was informed that in 2016, the Maharashtra government had framed a policy related to satellite mapping of urban areas and GIS mapping to survey properties. However, this will surely help the Mumbai City to be encroachment and illegal construction free.
