Housing minister Prakash Mehta on Monday said that the decision will be taken soon with the Chief Minister to implement the decision of  High Court to rehabilitate the residents of Mahul.

He was speaking during a discussion with a delegation of Mahalgaon House Rescue Committee led by social worker Medha Patkar.

He said that it is possible for transit homes to be given to 5,500 families at HDIL project in Kurla. Similarly, the possibility of rehabilitation at the same place must be checked and the probability of rehabilitation should be checked at the same place.

The government is trying to permanently remove this question, with the help of Chief Minister, BMC,  Housing Department, Environment Department, Slum Rehabilitation Authority and other related departments.

Various factories in this area have increased due to that pollution and the health of the citizens has worsened, Mehta said. The court has directed the families to rehabilitate. The state government has informed the Municipal Corporation about the arrangements of rehabilitation.

Medha Patkar asked the people of Mahul to rehabilitate them as soon as possible.
