Traffic jams in Mumbai is part of a daily schedule for most of the Mumbaikars traveling by road. Being a highly populated city in India, the amount of vehicles in the city is huge. The parking spaces available in the city as of now are not sufficient for these vehicles. Due to which many vehicle owners tend to park the vehicles on the road which leads to the traffic jams most of the times.
In order to decongest the roads, The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai is planning to develop about 50,000 parking lots throughout the city. Due to scarcity of open plots in Mumbai, MCGM is inviting builders and developers for this project and is offering incentive FSI for constructing parking lots in the premises that are being developed by them. The development control rule 33 has been incorporated with the ammendment with added provision of 33 ( 24). Over 20,000 such proposals are on the verge of getting approved.
Some of the well known developers in the city such as DLF, Ackruticity and Indiabulls have already approached MCGM and with the approval, have begun with modification of plans for developing the parking lots in some of their ongoing projects.
