Metro, Mono receive nod from Thane Municipal Corporation

Mumbai, March 18: In yet another milestone in its Metro and Monorail projects, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has received the nod for the projects from Thane Municipal Corporation for the parts of the projects falling in its jurisdiction.

The Authority had proposed alignment of Metro rail corridor of the Wadala Teen Hath Naka up to Kasarvadavli. As per the proposed alignment, Metro would start from Wadala-Ghatkopar – Mulund and enter the Thane region from Anand Nagar Naka and extend from Teen hath Naka- Cadbury-Golden Dyes. Further, the alignment would go up to Kasarvadavli.

Mr Rahul Asthana, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA said “The transport systems in Thane region will witness a paradigm shift with the advent of mega projects like the Metro and Mono Rail. These projects will bolster the transport systems and hence, the overall socio-economic development in the MMR. The approvals from the Thane Corporation too would expedite both the crucial projects.”

The Thane region will have 10 metro stations along the route up to 10.95 km in the Thane region. A car-shed admeasuring up to 13.33 hectare has been proposed to be constructed at kasarvadavli. MMRDA will have to acquire the land for this car shed. All stations will be equipped with commuter safety measures keeping up with global standards. Moreover, the stations will also be equipped with other state-of-the-art facilities, commuter friendly navigations, escalators and shopping areas.
Another proposal from MMRDA for Mono Rail Project in Thane has also been approved by the Thane Municipal Corporation. The Kapurbawadi-Balkum-Bhiwandi Monorail alignment has been approved in the General Body Meeting of the Corporation. This would enable Authority to align Metro and Mono stations both at Kapurbawadi. In addition, the TMC has proposed MMRDA to construct service roads on both sides of the Ghodbunder Road.
