MHADA competing with Private Builders

Opens Budget Flats at Rs.15800/- per sq ft at Powai and Rs.8000/- psf at Dahisar

Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority ( MHADA ) is now acting as if it is a private builder. The role of the Housing Board is to provide affordable housing. In spite of reducing the price, MHADA have come up with over and above market price of market offers from Private Builders. State government have raised issues on various platforms through its representatives accusing builders to increase the rates and “Greed” as Minister for State for Housing Mr. Sachin Ahire have said in inaugurating the 21st Property Exhibition organised by MCHI-CREDAI, that builders must restrain the greed.
MHADA’s greed to capitalise on the market is a set back to affordable housing dreams of a commonmen looking at state government to provide.
In its offer advertisement, MHADA is offering 1259 flats under Middle Income Group (MIG), Low Income Group (LIG) and Economic Weaker Section (EWS) schemes on the basis of provisions under the MHADA ( Estate Management, Sale, Transfer and Exchange of Tenements) Regulation 1981 and (Disposal of Land) Rule 1981.

While for Economical Weaker Section is been offered at Rs.4040 psf at Borivali, HIG at Dahisar is been charges at Rs.8000 psf and at Powai it is Rs.16000 psf, much above the market rates. At Borivali East many projects under SRA, Society Redevelopment are offering ultra luxury projects at Rs.8000/- for example Astoria at Magothane.
