MHADA to take over the redevelopment of Goregaon slums

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development (MHADA) have written a letter to CM Prithviraj Chavan to take over the redevelopment of the Goregaon chawls. The chawl which is spread in 40acre of land name Patrawala Chawl at Siddharth Nagar, Goregaon (WEST).  Prasad Lad, Chairman of Mumbai Building Repair & Reconstruction Board in conference conducted said that the repair body had a loss of approximately 1,000crore which HDIL has caused to the housing body. There have been many complaints against HDIL to terminate their contact and MHADA should take over the project immediately. Adding further he said, an internal audit report has shown very careless attitude adnd housing authority has faced difficulties because of them.

Prasad Lad has written to PM asking to finish the project by housing body.  According to Lad, Guruashish Constructions which has 75% stake in and MHADA with 25%, the new policy will give Mhada 51% of stake. Lad in the conference said, the developer has delayed the work and 300 transit houses is not given to the body. Stating the history that then Mhada chief in 2010 Gautum Chatterjee had raise an objection against HDIL. Also the former Shiv Sena legislator Nandkumar Kale had also filed a complaint stating that HDIL has illegally selling the project to three builders.

Prasad Lad, said that Mhada plots are always benefited as it has ample of plots , compensation is not there , prices affordable, the land titles clear , and most importantly FSI of 2.5 and 3 is given atleast a person can get 1BHK.

Discussing about the transit camp he said it is necessary to have transit camp as large scale of redevelopment is to be done. At present the housing board has 2,000 transit camps ready. Since 1970s many residents are living in old buildings have moved to MHADA as their premises are redeveloped.
