MMRDA approves two metro lines


The Authority headed by Chief Minister and Chairman, MMRDA, Devendra Fadnavis, approved Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro-5 and Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg Metro-6 corridors. The 24-km long Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro-5 corridor will have 17 stations and cost Rs. 8,416/- crore.


The 14.5-km long Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-VikhroliKanjurmarg Metro-6 corridor will have 13 stations and cost Rs. 6,672/- crore.


Both these projects shall be placed before the State Cabinet for government approval.


The two other projects were also approved by theAuthority. In the first project Rs. 194/- crore were approved to set up 500 wi-fi hotspots in the city of Mumbai. The on-ground work of identifying 500 wi-fi hotspots in the first phase in the city will be carried out by the Maharashtra Information and Technology Corporation under the aegis of the Directorate of Information and Technology.


The Authority also approved Rs. 259 crore for the widening of the Rail Over Bridge at Kopri, Thane (East) for the improvement of chaotic traffic situation there. The existing 2+2-lane bridge will give way to a new 4+4-lane bridge with service roads.
