The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) recently demolished two unauthorized residential buildings, one huge shed with compound wall and five chemical godowns in different parts of Bhiwandi. The action was taken after publishing the details of the unauthorized structure and a demolition notice thereto in local newspapers.
The Authority had to seek additional police force while demolishing two residential buildings situated in Mauje Kon, Taluka Bhiwandi, as the residents became violent, tried to assault a lady police sub inspector and another person tried to immolate himself. The police have filed cases against all concerned. A huge shed, also from Mauje Kon, admeasuring 70 x 60 feet along with the compound wall was also demolished.
Besides these, five unauthorized chemical godowns, in Mauje Sawade were also demolished in the demolition drive undertaken by the Authority. The MMRDA is the Special Planning Authority for the 60 villages in Taluka Bhiwandi.
