The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), opened the Rail Over Bridge that will connect eastern and western parts of Vasai at the hands of Vishnuj Savara Minister for Tribal Development and the Guardian Minister of Palghar District. The Rail Over Bridge constructed at Rs.48/- crore is expected to help save time and fuel for the motorists and improve environment.
The residents of Vasai had to wait too long for the flyover to be inaugurated, the ROB was initiated 7 years before and was scheduled to be complies by 2011, but caused delay in completion. Later, though the bridge was constructed thye inauguration caused delay due to unavailability of Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.
Finally MMRDA decided to open the bridge for commuters and inaugurated it by Minister for Tribal Development and the Guardian Minister of Palghar District, Vishnu Savara.
At the inauguration ceremony Vishnu Savara, said, “Vasai is a developing part of the metropolitan region and requires many infra facilities to be able to create job opportunities.”
The 736-meter long and 11-meter wide ROB is an addition to the already existing ROB which is only 8-meter wide and carries water pipelines, electric cables etc. causing traffic chaos during peak hours. Now, with the new and additional arm both bridges will be able to carry one-way traffic affording much needed relief to the harried motorists.
Pravin Darade, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said “The Metropolitan Region is top on our priority list.” He further said, “We have also planned 126-km long Virar-Alibaug multi-modal corridor which will help us create more growth centres for the development of this area”.
