MMRDA organizes BKC-Knowledge-Network meet successfully

Mumbai, April 29, 2010 – The BKC-Knowledge-Network, hosted by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority, successfully conducted its meet with the guiding words from Dr. G.K.Manjunath, Chief Librarian, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research
Speaking at the meet, Dr.Manjunath highlighted various aspects related to Resource Sharing and it’s tools and open index Initiative which is an open access portal for Indian Social Sciences Literature and Resources available in Indian Social Science and Management Libraries – the impact of Digital Library and methods of putting the same to optimum use. The meet was attended by more than 40 librarians of various leading organizations of Mumbai.
“It is indeed crucial to establish communication among information professionals, so as to enable society in general to access information from such sources. It is also necessary that the librarians remain in touch and keep exchanging information for the benefit of the society”, said Dr.Manjunath.
“This network would help in several ways namely tapping of vast resources of corporate and institutional collection, perfect time management, fulfillment of selective requirement of organizations”, said Ms. Vasundhara Deshpande, Librarian, MMRDA.
“The intent behind initiating the BKC-Knowledge-Network, which was established in July, 2008, was to create a storehouse of information for Government offices, Banks, Financial Institutions, Multi National Corporations etc. and also to get professionals together on a common forum thereby facilitating sharing of experience and ideas”, said Ms. Bharati Banerjee, Librarian, (DESAC), RBI.
MMRDA, Reserve Bank of India, Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited, IDFC, Wockhard, Bank of Baroda, National Bank for Agriculture and Development are the permanent member of this BKC-Knowledge-Network. These institutions possess storehouse of information on various subjects such as statistics, macro economics, econometrics, banking, international trace, town planning, traffic and transportation planning, environment, medicine etc.
