MMRDA to improve infrastructural facilities in Thane Region

To improve the infrastructural facilities in Thane region, MMRDA has made a provision of Rs 2659 crore. The major amount of it has already been utilised for the ongoing projects. Rest of the funds shall be utilised for the developments of roads, flyovers, sewerage plants and water conservation programmes in the areas like Vasai-Virar, Mira-Bhayender, Thane-Kalyan-Bhiwandi, Ulhasnagar, Ambarnath, Badlapur and Navi Mumbai.

In a recent meeting attended by the heads of municipal corporations, municipal councils, mayors of municipal corporations from Thane district, senior officials from the state government and MMRDA officials, the metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA declared above things. The information was given about the ongoing projects like skywalks, scientific land filling sites, Nirmal Abhiyan etc. MMRDA also mentioned that the work on the 30 km Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Monorail project shall start soon and shall improve the transport facility in Thane. Also the work of the Integrated Village Development program and infrastructure development program is in full swing and MMRDA has made a provision of Rs 12 crore and Rs. 42 crore respectively.

In order to reduce the traffic problem in the region, a feasibility study for water transport within the region might also be undertaken by the authority.
