The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) will soon build a modern township. It will take up the pilot project of 38 sq km on the 600 sq km of the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), close to the new airport in Panvel taluka.
The plot earmarked for the pilot project, is as big as four nodes in the civic area. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Goa highway (NH 17) and the old Mumbai-Pune road (NH 4) cuts through the land. Several of the 24 villages in the pilot project area are described as already developed with new settlers looking at a promising future.
Cidco MD Sanjay Bhatia said, “The development plan for the project will be worked out by the end of this month after which we will take it up. The project is planned for five years, but after the first six months, we will come out with an integrated total layout plan for the entire Phase I of the NAINA project, comprising 160 sq km. Private developers will play a major role in the Phase II, known as the special township project, which will come up on the remaining 440 sq km of NAINA. Cidco will take up the infra plan in Phase I.” At a future date, the population in the project area would be around five lakh with modern infrastructure and recreational centres, he added.
Cidco will take up the project on people’s participatory model, in which people will create a land pool for common development and enjoy modern infra by providing a minimum of 10 hectares of land.
