Municipal Corporation land will be available for housing scheme: Cabinet

In a state cabinet meeting on November 13, an important decision has been taken to make land available of urban local bodies for the effective implementation of housing for all by 2022 program.

The state cabinet decided to make a policy to amend the relevant law and make the revenue department’s land available to the households.

The Center and the state government have undertaken an ambitious program to provide housing to all homeless families by 2022. The Central Government approved the implementation of the Prime Minister’s Housing Scheme in 382 cities and the planning area under it.

However, this norms would be restricted to eligible individuals/families who conform to the income criteria and are homeless.

“It is necessary to provide government land for the effective implementation of this scheme. Especially in urban areas if the land is available, will automatically provide houses to homesless immediately”, offical said in a dicussion.

Maharashtra Metropolitan Act and Maharashtra Municipal Corporation, has approved to amend the related sections of the Nagar Panchayat and Industrial Towns Act, 1965. The land would be provided on nominal rentals for a period of 30 years.

It may be possible to lease land department officials of municipal area and municipality-municipal council lands with the prior recognition of landlords. However, this decision will not be applicable to the Municipal Corporation area, meeting said.

It has also been decided to make the revenue department’s land available under urban local self-government bodies for housing purpose.
