New urban residential developments to have reserved quota of housing for the needy and the poor

Soon all the new residential buildings and special townships in the urban areas Maharashtra will have 25% reservation for the economically weaker sections and  lower income groups.

The state government of Maharashtra is soon to issue a directive that will make the above condition mandatory for all the constructions that are coming up new.

As per the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal  Mission ( JNNURM), it is compulsory  to reserve 25% houses for the weaker sections of the societies and the lower income groups but has never been implemented in Maharashtra.

In a recent meeting on the issue, the CM of Maharashtra has mentioned that there is a huge backlog for the provision of  such housing for the low income group in the society which shall now be seriously implemented in all upcoming projects by doing the necessary amendments and changes in the laws.

However, The Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industries ( MCHI ) is strongly of the opinion that projects won’t be viable until there is a provision for an additional FSI for such developments. Also the reservation  should not be more than 10% for the lower income groups and the weaker Sections.
