The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana initiated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, implemented in the year 2015 who envisions to construct more than 2 crore houses and dispense to the economically weaker section population in the course of seven years from 2015 to 2022. Initially, the vision on this project seemed as an unrealistic goal. As according to the 2011 Census, 1.77 million people come under category of homeless, which almost rounds up to 0.15% of the country’s total population. This ambition to is definitely bright move according to Mr. Shailesh Puranik, MD, Puranik Builders who states, “Announcements like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana started by the government to promote Housing for All, is a terrific step taken by the government’s New Year eve announcement related to 4% and 3% exemption on interest rates on home loans for poor & middle-class people will help more people access to home. Also, RERA & GST will bring-in more transparency and accountability. Puraniks is planning to launch a large affordable housing project very soon and we are happy that such initiatives in this category can provide a big boost to real estate segment.” The proposed plan of “housing for all” is already on an achievable track. As per the record of needed housing in urban locality, the projects have already been introduced in certain vicinities by the government.
The Municipal Corporation of Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, Bhiwandi-Nizaampur, Mira-Bhayander, Vasai, Virar, Ulhasnagar, Navi-Mumbai , Pen, Panvel, Karjat, Khopoli, Badlapur, Ambernath, in collaboration with MMRDA have kick-started their projects. This move is an initial step towards the aim of “home for all” vision. The applicants are suggested to enroll on their official website. The eligibility to enroll is, the annual income of the family should be less than Rs. 300000. The family should not own any permanent housing in any part of the country. Members of MMR associations are also eligible to be part of this enrollment. The estimated costing of 300 sq. ft is expected to be Rs. 10,00000.
