Permission granted to Dismantle illegal buildings in Kochi

The issue of a person constructing a building on boat jetty premises came to the notice of corporation authorities in the month of April.

Based on the enquiry made, it was found that the building was constructed by a person who had entered into an agreement with the State Water Transport Department (SWTD) for running a canteen.

The person, later, secured permission from SWTD for carrying out repair works and under the cover of it, he constructed a two-storey building in place of the single storey tiled -roof building.

The Corporation served notice to the canteen contractor demanding him to pull down the structure on their own, the contractor moved to the court seeking stay on the corporation’s order.

The high court dismissed the stay plea but asked to hear the plea before taking any action. After hearing to the plea, it was found that the person constructed the building illegally without securing building permit from the local body.

The destruction was commenced by the corporation officials on Friday around 9 Am Mayor Soumini Jain had given orders to the officials to execute the decision of the corporation council to demolish the illegal structure.
