The standing committee of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) rejected the civic administrations proposal to increase property tax during its meetings on 5th February. It also deferred a proposal to increase octroi rates but approved a 10% hike in signage and license fees for 2013-14.

The chairman of the committee Mr. Jagdish Shetty said panel members did not approve the hike in property tax as demolition of unauthorized constructions by the civic body were already an inconvenience to citizens. The state government has decided to abolish octroi in all municipal corporations except Mumbai and replace it with a local body tax. The proposal of property tax will be sent to the civic general body for final approval. The property tax department had proposed a hike of a minimum if 4% and maximum of 13% for 2013-14 in the taxes collected by the department. The committee had kept the proposal pending for nearly a month. The signage and license department had proposed an increase of 20% in the fees, but the standing committee only approved a hike of 10%.
