Property tax collection rises by 114% in Gurugram

As compared to previous year, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has seen a dual increase in property tax collection between December 2016-17. According to the MCG website, the property tax collection from December 2015-16 was Rs 177.4 crore, tax collection between December 2016-17 was Rs 378.29 crore – an increase of nearly 114 percent.

According to a senior MCG official, “Property tax collection in Gurgaon has seen a significant increase in the last few years, especially after the introduction of rebates on property tax payments in February.”

The state government if February had offered an additional 1% rebate on all digital payments. The state government also offered 25% refund and a one-time interest waiver on tax dues till the end of the current financial year (2016-17).

MCG collected Rs 367.5 crore in property tax between March 2017 and December 2017 alone. The rebate was supported by continuous campaigns on property tax collection, sealing of properties and even auctioning.

MCG auctioned three properties worth Rs 3.87 crore, in November.
