Provide flats with carpet area of 300 sq ft to slum dwellers: Mhada

Mumbai: Mhada officials said that, the nodal agency which has been appointed for the redevelopment of sector 5 of Dharavi the biggest slum in the city, Development Control Rules (DCR) have to be amended to provide flats with a carpet area of 300sq ft to slum-dwellers.
Whereas, according to the current DCR undere section 33(10), a slum dweller is entitled for rehabilitation tenement with a carpet area of 269 sq ft. The rehabilitation plan for sector 5 can not take place until this rule is amended, Mhada official said. To completing the redevelopment process before the BMC elections in the upcoming year. The government has asked the state urban development (UD) department to formulate a proposal regarding the amendment which will be finalized soon.
