Pune, a vibrant 9th most populous city in India and the 2nd largest state of Maharashtra after Mumbai stands on 10th rank in world in terms of population. The Smart Cities Mission is designed to inspire greater creativity from Municipal Officers and their associates, more involvement in development for citizens and concrete benefit in people’s lives. Let’s strive into the detailed Smart Cities Mission of Pune Module to know better the developmental plans.
Pune city has been selected as the Smart City in the list of 98 smart cities. It has successfully completed the competitive process of the ‘Smart City Challenge’. The Ministry of Urban Development and Municipal Commissioner Shri Kumal Kumar is formulating the Smart city with general participation of public for Suggestion & Objections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the program in Pune said, we should not consider urbanization as a problem but consider it as an opportunity. It is now our responsibility to provide strength to cities so that it can mitigate the maximum poverty in the shortest time.
The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited has in total 15 Modules of structure which has
A) Module 1- a)Physical Infrastructure: In Module 1 major attention is given to Transport Development which focuses on Road & Road Widening -45km of uniform RoW across locality, Footpath Retrofit– 60km of footpath will be re-designed, Junction Redesign- redesigning of 14 junctions in Aundh –Baner-Balewadi, Non-Motorized Streets, Re-design of Streets, Bus Stops– 54 state of the art bus stops to be revamp, BRTS– An additional corridor of 8km is planned along the river front. b) Water Development in Module 1 which is keen on Adequate Water Supply– 5 pilots DMAs that will be provided with 24×7 water supply, Storm Water Use– additional storm water drainage infrastructure, Helium Leak Detection– successfully identify invisible leaks through pipes, Two Fire stations in each area, Waste Water Recycling, Rain Water Harvesting, Naidu STP-Energy Generation.
B) Module 2– Affordable housing – Building Affordable Housing- in the ABB area 300-400 affordable houses will be built by 2020.
C) Module 3– a) Customer Care– Creation of world class consumer centre which will be the single point of contact for grievance, enquiries, billing, information and payment b) Customer Mapping Survey which will give a fully fledged customer survey.
D) Module 4) a) River Water Cleaning –river water cleaning will beautify the rivers, massive use of sewage treatment like root-zone technology.
E) Module 5) a) Riverfront Development– ABB’s 3.5km stretch of riverfront will developed into a world class recreation hub
F) Module 6) a) Goods & Service– bicycles sharing systems, express airport services like 10 buses running between the area and airport, Smart Metering, Sanitation will include 74 world class public toilets, 30 drinking fountains and 357 smart dustbins, 100 electrical buses, E-Rickshaw will boost sharing and walk ability by ensuring last mile connectivity, Solid Waste Management
G) Module 7 –ICT with RoW- a) Security will provide 100% CCTV coverage integrated with a 911 dispatch call centre b) IT Connectivity c) Pilot DMA for 24×7 water.
H) Module 8– ICT without RoW – a) Smart Parking multilevel across b) Adaptive Traffic control system will have 319 signals with solar powered and UPS backups c) Bus ITMS equipped with services like in-bus wi fi systems with panic buttons and monitoring violations d) Command Control Centre e) Intelligent Road asset Management f) E-Challan g) Smart Domestic Meters h) E-Governance give integrated solution and establishment of an intelligent operations centre, also it will get connected the communities through “DigiTel” or “MI card” i) Online Billing j)Total smart parking (Pan City) k) Traffic Modeling l) smart commercial Meter m) Bulk Meter will collect real time date on flow & direction of water and view everything n) Mobile App and Website.
I) Module 9– Smart Lighting
J) Module 10- Open Space to increase the percentage of open space from 4% to 10%
K) Module 11- Skill Development-low income skill development and healthcare will equip 800 individual with vocational training
L) Module 12- Smart Grid –Electricity distribution smart grid and metering to minimize distribution losses and to promote electricity savings
M) Module 13- Solar– Solar Energy Supply to ensure that atleast 10% of the Smart City’s energy requirement comes from solar and makes the maximum solar city
N) Module 14- Start –UP to creates a culture of innovations and promotes mixed use development
O) Module 15- Transit Hub to facilitate long distance commutes a multi model transit hub will be created the entry point to Pune.
