The work of one of the most crucial phase of the World Bank funded double-deck Bridge on the Santacruz- Chembur Link road started again. The bridge promises connectivity to the island city. Once the bridge gets completed it will end connectivity problem of commuters of Kurla terminus once and for all.
One of the engineers of Maharashtra State Development Corporation (MSRDC) involved in the project said, initially two girders were planned but ended up putting 4 as it would be more safe of which the work will start shortly. The bridge should be open to traffic between Nehru Nagar and Kurla Terminus by February. The railway is yet to the permission.
The SCLR Bridge termed as stunner of engineering by National Geographic the bridge started in 2003 and had been stuck in maze of encroachments. The six lane road would be city’s first double-deck bridge that will crisscross right from Western Express Highway to Eastern Express Highway.
The delays in completion the bridge has already cost a bomb as the information received it has exceeded by Rs 139.8 crore than the original estimated cost.
