Civil Aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju is planning to fast track the process of the relocation of the slum dwellers from the airport vicinity.  The ministry will write a letter to the Maharashtra CM to kick start the eviction process at the earliest.

The project shifting of 65,000 slum dwellers occupying 276acres of airport land which had its dead end last year after the city operator terminated its contract with the realty firm HDIL. The aviation ministry said the delay in the project has stalled the expansion of the airports. According to the plan the X-shaped T2 cannot be built till the slum pockets are removed. Crucial airfield infrastructure such as taxiways and parking bays will also be restricted to drawing boards.
