Slum Housing- reality check in Delhi

It seems that slum housing will soon be a reality. Data says that Delhi has around 685 slum clusters, out of which 352 clusters are owned by DDA and the rest 333 slums owned by Delhi govt. NDMC, railways, Cantonment Board & CPWD, MCD.

The government has undertaken some very constructive amendments in the Slum Rehabilitation policy to allow housing facilities to the slum dwellers. The CM opined that the cabinet approved simplified and liberal guidelines for relocation of slum clusters as recommended by a group Ministers.

Under the JNURM scheme, Union Urban Development Corporation (DSIIDC) for construction of around 15,000 flats provides monetary support to Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. These flats will been ready for possession for three years. The government has also decided to revise present norms which do not allow squatters to any rehabilitation by the government. This very new policy agrees to assists them provided they fulfill certain specific conditions.

These flats are the reality for economically weaker sections and low income group as the price will be 3.34 lakh, the Union government will contribute Rs 1.19 lakh , the Delhi govt. will contribute Rs. 62,000 and the land owing agency will contribute Rs.93,000. The ST/SC community will be getting additional facilities.
