The Archaeological Survey of India has proposed the redevelopment plan of Indira Gandhi Stadium and beautification of Siddheshwar Lake area in Solapur.
The decision was taken at the meeting held under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on November 13. The meeting was organized by Director General of the Directorate of Archeology, Municipal Commissioner of Solapur Municipal Corporation and senior officials of the Archeology Department were present.
Avinash Dhakane, Commissioner of Solapur Municipal Corporation gave the presentation about it and said, “Solapur is included in the smart city selected by Maharashtra, and under the Smart City scheme, the redevelopment plan of the Indira Gandhi Stadium was pending. Some instructions and amendments have been approved with the draft.”
Proposals for the beautification of Siddheshwar lake area under the scheme were sent to the Department of Archeology. According to the plan, the project was proposed at Bhuikot Fort wall in the city. However, instead of Bhuikot Fort, Mahanagar Municipal Corporation has sent the proposal for approval of Siddheshwar lake to the Archeology Department.
