State demands to central for approval of affordable housing

The state government is planning to build 10lakh affordable housing in the upcoming five years, but state government needs final approval from the central government to complete the project.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan while consulting with the members of Planning Commission has demanded the centers favor for construction of the 10 lakh houses and also asked for the amendment in the norms.
According to the state officials the commission was asked to look at the possibility of funding the 50 percent the cost of construction of slum redevelopment projects and to extend the Rajeev Awas Yojana for slum rehabilitation for all urban local bodies in the state, including Mumbai.
