Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) smart city cell n its presentation at the national workshop on urban transformation held in New Delhi on June 23 said that out of 39 projects undertaken by it under the project, 26 would either be completed or reach project implementation stage by this weekend.
Detailed project reports (DPR) are being made for three projects that have big gestation periods while the rest 10 would be implemented within two months.
Modern infrastructure is being built in the city in the first phase at a cost Rs 2,597 crore. Smart roads, automatic fare collection system, intelligent traffic control system (ITCS), city payment cards, fibre-to-home, command and control system, rainwater harvesting, biogas, solar LED street lighting, solar power generation and solid waste GPS tracking system are some of the projects either completed or nearing completion. DPRs were being made for logistical park, skywalk and French wells.
“Some cities are still in planning mode for the smart city project whereas we are on the verge of completing many proposed schemes. The three projects with higher gestation period would also begin soon,” SMC’s special commissioner for smart city mission M Nagrajan said.
Municipal commissioner M Thennarasan said, “We are awaiting allotment of land from the state government for logistical park. The DPR for skywalk is likely to be ready by July 15. Work on French wells will commence once survey is over and site for construction is determined.”
