Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that the transport system is the Pune’s growth engine and the work of High Capacity Mass Transport Route (HCMTR) will be started by June, in order to accelerate the development of Pune city.
CM was speaking at Bhoomi Pujan of Swargate Multimodal Integrated Transport Hub, Smart Electric Bus Project and Smart Operation Center.
Fadnavis said, “65 per cent of gross national income (GDP) is generated from the city. Therefore, the overall development of cities is necessary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the concept of a smart city to develop cities in the country. Through this, the development of the cities has accelerated. Pune’s metro will accelerate the development of Pune city. All the projects of Metro work will be completed before time.
The public transport system is the key to the development of any city. However, the number of vehicles in Pune city has increased greatly. Therefore, city pollution is also increasing. Public transport system should be available anywhere in the city within five hundred meters, but for this, green mobility options are required. He said this would be possible through Swargate Integrated Transport Hub.
The construction of the 120-kilometre long road in Pune has been started. He said that the changing Pune on this development path will provide all facilities for the general Pune.
Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that various activities have been undertaken from Smart City Project to make smart and environmentally friendly transportation of Pune city.
