The Bombay High Court has charged 1.24cr to builder for destruction of mangroves
In the recent judgement of the Bombay High Court has charged a fine of Rs.1.4cr to Kandivali based builder for violating the environment norms by destroying mangroves in Dahisar. The division bench comprises the P B Majmudar and Mridula Bhatkar has made this judgement against an appeal filed by the company through its director, Jayesh Shah, against the Borivli sub-divisional officer’s (SDO) and tehsildar’s decision to seal the company’s head office and 13 bank accounts in the Kandivli branch of Punjab National Bank to recover Rs 1.24 crore. The SDO also has asked to cover the expenses which they have spent while cleaning the area after the developer dumped construction debris in the mangroves. According to the sources approx 60% of the mangroves were destroyed.
