West Bengal government is likely to include option to acquire single-corp or barren land for commercial purposes if farmers are ready for the same. According to highly placed sources in Writers’ Buildings, the state government is likely to reframe the basic rules of the West Bengal Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill, 2011, on these lines.
To acquire land for private purposes there was no provisions available in the regulations even for public-private-partnership (PPP) projects.
The land bill, 2011, which the government stopped short of introducing in the assembly this week, may now be drafted accordingly and reprinted. This, even after getting it signed by governor K R Narayanan on Thursday evening.
According to the bill no peace of land can be used or transfer for private or commercial purposes, including public-private-partnership (PPP) projects.
